Monitor your baby’s breathing.

Snuza® HeroMD baby monitor is a wearable device which attaches to your baby's diaper and monitors your baby’s breathing. The HeroMD detects the slightest of breaths and will alert you if breathing is weak or less than eight breaths per minute. If the Snuza® HeroMD detects no breathing for 15 seconds it will vibrate in an effort to rouse your baby to resume breathing. Often the vibration is enough to rouse the infant and HeroMD will revert to monitoring mode. However after three vibration/rousing incidents, a Rouse Warning will alert you that breathing has stopped for 15 seconds on three occasions. If an additional 5 seconds of no breathing is detected a sharp audible alarm will sound. The Snuza® HeroMD can pick up external movements and it is therefore not suitable for co-sleeping or bed-sharing. It is advisable not to use the Snuza® HeroMD when the baby is in motion, e.g. in a car seat or a stroller.**The Snuza® HeroMD is not available in North America.

Why Snuza® HeroMD

  • Small – clips onto baby’s diaper
  • Portable – cordless baby breathing monitor
  • Easy-to-use

How it works?

  • Listen – activate a gentle clicker sound that let’s you know the Snuza® HeroMD is on.
  • Watch – breathing-rate indicator lights warn you about weak or infrequent breathing.
  • Vibration – after 15 seconds of no detected breathing, Snuza® HeroMD gently vibrates to rouse baby.
  • Alert – audible alarm after 20 seconds of no breathing or after three vibrate incidents.

Read the basic tips for using your Snuza® HeroMD wearable breathing monitor below.

  • HeroMD is a portable breathing with a sensor tip encased in medical grade silicone which makes contact with the baby’s tummy when firmly attached to the baby’s diaper. <em>Please note that the HeroMD must always be in contact with the baby’s tummy area. If contact is lost, HeroMD will sound an alarm.</em>
  • To prevent unnecessary false alarms caused by Snuza® HeroMD not touching the baby:
    • Ensure that device is switched ON and placed on a flat, stationary surface, before attaching to your baby’s diaper.
    • Use the correct size diaper. Diapers that are too big will loosen around the waistband, causing HeroMD to lose contact.
    • Fold the waistband or top edge of the diaper over to create a double-fold, giving HeroMD a firm grip on the diaper.
    • Adjust the adhesive tapes so that there is a snug fit around the tummy.
    • Make sure that HeroMD is firmly and fully clipped onto the folded waistband.
    • Make sure that the sensor is in direct contact with the baby.

<em><strong>Please note: </strong> Snuza® HeroMD breathing monitors detect the slightest movement and it is therefore not suitable for co-sleeping or bed-sharing, including movement from external sources such as when travelling in a vehicle, pushing a stroller, etc. Snuza® HeroMD should only be relied upon when there is no external movement present, i.e. when the vehicle, stroller, bassinet etc. is stationery.</em>

Tips for attaching the Snuza® HeroMD

  • Fold over the top edge of the diaper and fit diaper snugly
  • Switch HeroMD on and check battery indicator
  • Self-test HeroMD on a flat surface
  • After the start-up tone/sound plays, attach to diaper
  • Ensure that HeroMD sits squarely/securely on the diaper, and that the Breathing Sensor is in contact with the baby’s tummy
  • If you find that the Snuza® HeroMD is coming loose once baby starts moving around, we suggest a snug-fitting Carter’s onesie and pants set.
  • Another option is to use a safety pin – insert it through the material and through the back of the clip – the clip is designed in such a way that this is possible. It won’t come off until you remove the safety pin. Obviously this is only recommended before the diaper goes on so that there’s no risk of hurting baby.

Attaching the Snuza® HeroMD to clothing

  • HeroMD is a clip-on baby monitor and can be attached to the waistband of elasticated pants, as long as the Breathing Sensor maintains contact with the baby’s tummy area.
  • There may also be a thin layer of clothing (e.g. a vest) between the Breathing Sensor and the skin, but ensure that the Breathing Sensor maintains contact.
  • The HeroMD Breathing Monitor can also be used if the baby is dressed in light clothing (for example, a onesie) over the diaper or pants to which the HeroMD is attached.
  • Too much clothing may attenuate or muffle the alarm. Make sure the alarm can be heard if the baby is covered in clothing and/or blankets.

If you follow these guidelines properly, you can rest assured that baby’s every breath is being monitored.

Replacing the Battery

The batteries used in the HeroMD Portable Baby Breathing Monitors are user-replaceable. The life of the replaceable battery depends entirely on usage time. Battery life will vary significantly depending on the average daily duration of use and/or alarm duration and/or number of alarms. Turning on and off unnecessarily also shortens the battery life. If the number of alarms is high, always check the diaper fitment.

If the battery indicator light shows that the battery is depleted or nearing depletion (flashing orange or red), do not use the monitor again until you have replaced the battery. <strong>Snuza® HeroMD only uses CR2 batteries</strong>. Find your nearest distributor to order a replacement battery.

  • Remove the battery cover on the underside of the unit.
  • Remove the depleted battery.
  • Insert the new battery, ensuring that the polarity is correct.
  • Replace the battery cover, ensuring that it is correctly closed.
  • Test the unit by switching it on and checking that the battery indicator light flashes green.
  • If the unit starts emitting a beep after the battery has been replaced, simply press the ON/OFF and MODE/OFF buttons simultaneously, to turn it off.

**Please note that the product guarantee does not apply to the battery.

Disposal

The battery must be disposed of in accordance with your country’s laws governing the disposal and recycling of batteries.

Quick Start Guide

  • Important: Use the correct diaper size and make sure it fits snugly.
  • Do not switch the monitor on when clipped onto your baby’s diaper.
  • Switch on by briefly pressing the ON/OFF button.
  • A start-up test will illuminate the indicator lights, vibrate the stimulator, play 3 audible tones, perform a battery test, and perform a sensor test. Place the monitor on a stationery service to perform the sensor test.
  • When the sensor has been tested, a startup tone is heard.
  • Clip Snuza® HeroMD onto the diaper so that the Breathing Sensor is in direct contact with the baby’s tummy.
  • The Breathing Indicator Light flashes on each movement.
  • If breathing is not detected for 15 seconds, the vibrating stimulator will attempt to rouse the baby.
  • If breathing resumes within 5 seconds after a vibration, the Breathing Indicator Light will flash red to indicate that there has been a 15-second period of no breathing.
  • After three vibrations, the Rouse Warning is activated – HeroMD beeps every 2 seconds and the Breathing Indicator Light flashes red with every beep.
  • If the period of no breathing reaches 20 seconds, the full audible alarm will sound, the HeroMD will vibrate and the Alarm Indicator Light will flash red.
  • The caregiver must attend to the baby.
  • The alarm can only be deactivated by switching the monitor off.
  • To switch off the monitor, press both the ON/OFF and MODE/OFF buttons simultaneously. A shutdown tone will be heard and monitoring will stop.

<em><strong>Precautions</strong>

  • Only use monitor when baby is in a motionless bed/cot.
  • Not suitable for co-sleeping or bed sharing.
  • Movement from external sources such as being pushed in a pram or travelling in a vehicle or aircraft may be detected by HeroMD’s sensor. Snuza® HeroMD should not be relied upon where external sources of movement are present.
  • This breathing monitor may not be able to detect all life threatening events.</em>
